The number of seats for B.Tech courses at IIT-Kanpur will be augmented to 622 from 550 this year to house OBC candidates.

This was determined after all the IITs agreed to apply 27% OBC quota in phases over three years. The three new IITs in Bihar, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, will realize 27% reservation from this year.

“Seventy two seats each will be greater than before in the next two years taking the total increased seats to 216 in three years,” said IIT-Kanpur’s helper registrar Prof K V Satyamurty. The infrastructure, however, would be improved only following the let go of budget.
